The Zendure SuperTank Pro is an aluminium-clad beast of an external battery that is packed full of all the latest high output charging standards. This update to the original SuperTank, which was recently successfully funded on Kickstarter, now uses USB C ports only and as a result, can now charge multiple high demand devices at once.
Zendure recently sent us a review unit to try out. Read on to see how we got on with it.
Design
The SuperTank Pro isn’t exactly a subtle device but considering the charge it can hold, it is still portable and even pocketable if needed.
The unit weighs in at 580g and measures 124mm x 74.5mm x 45.5mm.
The anodised aluminium case design reminds me of steel travel luggage but it should offer good protection for the EV battery cells that are contained within.
The front face houses a small OLED screen which displays input and output values for the 4 USB C charging ports below it.
Those 4 ports are bunched into two high output ports capable of 100W charging and two lower output ports capable of 18W each.
SuperTank Pro Features
While the SuperTank Pro is obviously aimed at charging your devices on the go, it also works pretty well sitting on your desk.
It is hard to keep track of all the different type of chargers needed for all of your devices these days. It also becomes a mess with different adapters and cables if you want to use the correct one for every device so inevitably you end up using a cable attached to your laptop or PC and that can mean long charging times.
I’ve found while I have been reviewing the SuperTank Pro it has changed the way I charge my devices. First thing in the morning I plug the Supertank Pro in to charge. While it’s charging I then connect my smartwatch to it and my iPad Pro to get them ready for the day ahead.
As the day goes on, whether I am still at my desk or out and about (not too much these days, thanks Covid), anything that needs to be charged gets plugged into the SuperTank Pro. When I get back to my desk I plug the SuperTank Pro back in to top it up and continue in this pattern.
The big difference here is that everything charges quickly. Even if you are not fully charging whatever you plug in, you’re still charging as fast as possible so it makes a difference. Many devices, such as an iPad Pro or MacBook, are painfully slow to charge with external batteries but that’s not the case using the SuperTank Pro and because of this and the fact you only need to reach for one device to charge everything, you keep using it.
In the graphic below you can see examples of how the four ports can be used to charge a selection of devices up to 138W max output. You can also see the various different charging standards that the unit is compatible with.
The SuperTank Pro has a capacity of 26800mAh. It’s a lot for an external battery but the devices we carry around with us these days are also incredibly power-hungry so a tablet, smartphone and a few other accessories will eat into this capacity pretty quickly.
If you are using the correct charger to top up the SuperTank Pro this won’t be too much of an issue. Zendure offers a 100W charger called the SuperPort S4 which can be purchased separately and this will charge the SuperTank Pro in just under two hours.
I’ve been using a 60W laptop charger when in the office and a 25W phone charger when out and about and near a socket. Both do a good job of charging/keeping it topped up and I’ve found I seldom have to charge it from completely dead so an hour here and there on either charger is more than enough to get through the day.
Conclusion
The Zendure SuperTank Pro may be excessive for some people’s needs but if you are on the go a lot and carry a lot of devices that need regular charging it is a fantastic device. It charges every device I carry with me easily and quickly and it really has taken the stress out of managing these devices while on the move.
Once I keep the SuperTank Pro topped up I know I...
