3. Wandering In The Wilderness? God Does His Best Work There.

Iowa City Church Podcast
In this episode we continue our sermon series, Summer in the Sand: learning from wilderness journeys in the Bible. For this sermon, our ministry resident Gabe Solis preaches about Israel's wilderness wanderings in the sand as described in the Old Testament book of Exodus. After rescuing Israel from slavery in Egypt, God didn’t lead them straight to the Promised Land—instead, He led them into the wilderness. This was no accident. The wilderness was God's chosen place for transformation, where He would teach His people to trust Him fully and obey His voice. Away from the security of Egypt and the distractions of the world, Israel had to rely on God for everything—food, water, direction, and protection. In that barren place, God revealed His faithfulness and tested their hearts, not to punish them, but to grow their relationship with Him. The wilderness was where God shaped them into His people, calling them to walk by faith, not by sight. It sounds like things haven't changed. God continues to lead his people; you and me, into the "wilderness" so that He can shape us into His people.
